Tundra is not used to produce food. This is
because the ground in the tundra landscape is
hard due to the permafrost and the freezing
temperatures are destroying any plants that are
planted. And because of this all of the residences
food has to be brought in by truck which is time
consuming and is also very cost worthy. But
because of thistle tundra biome has not changed
at all. But recently chefs have been using
greenhouses to grow food as shown in the photo above! They make small
greenhouses next to their kitchens and have
plants growing inside them. These food can be
anything from potatoes to cabbage. Some
people in southern Greenland have also got
sheep and cow farms working so the future of
food production in the tundra biome is looking
great. But a major threat for the biome is global warming. Because tundra biomes can be up to
over 80 percent snow global warming could wipe out the snow. And that would play havoc with the
atmospheres temperature and send everything into chaos. If the snow melted then it could cause
floods in some valleys and can have some villages under water. So if global warming continues
then the tundra biome would be no more.
